  1. Mango
    Cuttings:
    • Mango
cuttings are a method of propagating mango trees. They involve taking a
portion of a healthy mango tree (the scion) and attaching it to another
      mango tree (the rootstock).
    • The
primary aim of grafting is to produce plants identical to their parent,
but it can also introduce disease resistance, vigor, or dwarfing effects.
    • There
are different grafting techniques, including cleft graft, veneer graft,
and V graft. Each method involves joining the scion and rootstock to
      create a new tree.
  2. Grafting
    Process:
    • Selecting
      Scion and Rootstock:
      • Choose
a healthy mango tree as the scion (the part you want to propagate) and
another tree as the rootstock (the base onto which the scion will be
        grafted).
    • Making
      the Cut:
      • Cut
the rootstock about 4 inches above the soil.
      • Split
the remaining stem in half from top to bottom, leaving about an inch
        above the soil.
    • Joining
      Scion and Rootstock:
      • Make
a clean cut on both the scion and rootstock.
      • Join
them together, ensuring a snug fit.
      • Secure
the graft with grafting tape or a rubber band.
  3. Growing
    from Cuttings:
    • Rooting
      the Scion:
      • Place
the grafted mango tree in a warm, humid environment.
      • Keep
        the soil consistently moist.
      • Once
roots develop, transplant the tree to a larger container or directly
        into the ground.
    • Caring
      for the Grafted Tree:
      • Provide
adequate sunlight (6-8 hours per day).
      • Water
        regularly, especially during dry spells.
      • Fertilize
        with a balanced fertilizer.
      • Prune
to shape the tree and encourage branching.
